Erigga and Eeskay Bridge Nigeria's Hip-Hop Cultures on North & South

For years, Erigga and Eeskay have represented two distinct corners of Nigerian hip-hop. Erigga, the acclaimed rapper from Delta State, has built a career on sharp storytelling and his unmistakable use of Pidgin English, earning his place as one of the country's most respected street voices. Meanwhile, Eeskay has emerged as one of the leading figures in Abuja's new wave of hip-hop, blending trap, drill, and African rhythms into a sound that reflects the energy of Northern Nigeria.

How North & South Brings Erigga and Eeskay Together

Their collaborative EP, North & South, brings these two perspectives together, showing that while geography may shape a story, ambition, resilience, and lived experiences often speak the same language.

Across six tracks, North & South explores themes of identity, survival, loyalty, and the realities of building a life against the odds. The opening track, "North South," immediately establishes the chemistry between both artists as they exchange verses rooted in their different backgrounds while finding common ground through music.

On "Two Strips," the duo balance contrasting personalities, pairing Eeskay's fearless delivery with Erigga's measured confidence. "Locked In" shifts the focus to discipline, perseverance, and staying committed to purpose despite distractions, while "Cana Fairy" brings a lighter energy, celebrating confidence, attraction, and nightlife.

The project reaches its emotional core with "Usumanu & Kevwe" and "Reckoning." Named after the artists' given names, "Usumanu & Kevwe" reflects on identity, loyalty, and the shared lessons that come from navigating different paths with the same determination to succeed.

Closing the EP, "Reckoning" strips away bravado in favour of reflection, encouraging listeners to think about integrity, consequences, and the legacy they leave behind. Inspired by true events, the record reinforces one of the project's central ideas: while Nigeria's North and South have different histories and cultures, the struggles, dreams, and aspirations that shape everyday life are often remarkably similar.

Speaking about the collaboration, Erigga said:

"The biggest surprise was realising that struggle no get accent. We come from different parts of Nigeria, but the stories carry the same weight. The environment fit change, the slang fit change, but the hunger, the pressure, the responsibility and the dreams are the same. Eeskay brought a Northern perspective, I brought the South-South perspective, and somehow the music met in the middle. It reminded me that real music isn't about geography; it's about truth. That's why the chemistry happened naturally."
